IKIGAI - reason for being!

These Japanese are really weird, they have so many cultural and behavioral practices in their society. I read about IKIGAI on a cultural blog post that someone wrote for self realization and improvement. A trending topic of discussion amongst the higher circles who can afford to fart about anything under the sun. I kid you not this is a serious philosophy and if you take it lightly, you can be struck with a mid life crisis, somewhere around my age. However, as life would have it's own course in time, you will learn about these concepts in the strangest of times and ways. Like I learned it when I was searching for Japanese porn; can you believe it that there is no Japanese porn on the internet?

What does ikigai mean?

Ikigai is a Japanese philosophy that means your ‘reason for being.’ ‘Iki’ in Japanese means ‘life,’ and ‘gai’ describes value or worth. Your ikigai is your life purpose or your bliss. It’s what brings you joy and inspires you to get out of bed every day.

It’s important to mention that while traditional Japanese philosophy focuses on finding your bliss, western interpretation has used ikigai as a method of finding your dream career.

And at first thought I thought that IKIGAI is Hinglish for Itchy Cow. Hinglish; it's a new language that the internet innovated by these Twitter Trolls who wanted to sound English without missing out on their puns in Hindi. What's a troll? Sorry, more on that in another interesting post on my blog. By now you must have spotted the grammatical mistake I made by writing IKIGAI in capitals; because it's not an acronym it's a word used to describe this Jappy philosophy. Just like other Jappy philosophies like Kaizen, Honda and Yamaha. Enough of the humor; back to the subject - Maggi was an abandoned girl who cooked noodles for a living; when Nestle bought her for $150 and put her into a Chinese factory and branded her so that you people could eat bowls of noodles.

If you Google for IKIGAI Japanese; you will get a result that says - The Japanese secret to a long and happy life ... Now I don't agree with either longer OR happier life. Everything should have shelf life, just imagine if you lived forever... what good would it do you? what good would it do for the society? Let's put eternal youth in the mix; what are you going to do with all that life on this planet?

Imagine everyone on this planet that never aged or never died. Deforestation, pollution and traffic jams are going to be at an escalated level. Which wants me to sight this experience I had going to my daughters school for the first time after the pandemic. There were children and people and they were fighting for space in the corridor. Looks like we Indians took advantage of every power failure we had and used the opportunity to have sex and make children by the dozen!

If you were happy all the time, would you know that it is an emotion that is termed happiness because of the state of your mind? If there is no other state for you to compare it with, say sadness - would happiness be appreciated? And how is this philosophy a secret if it's all over the internet?

Here is one more definition of the philosophy: The Japanese Concept Of Finding Purpose In Life

I believe I have found my purpose on this planet and also the reason for my being. They are not the same; purpose to be on the planet is to eat, drink, shit and party all the time. Reason in life has become pay bills, do dishes, laundry, make the bed, take the kids to school and work for a pay that is lesser than the peanuts an Elephant gets at the circus. I lied about doing the dishes, laundry, making the bed, taking the kids to school but you get the point don't you? and if you have found your purpose in life and the reason as to why you are alive on this planet; share it in the comments.

  1. I found this blog interesting. However, it reminded me of my relationship I have with Jesus and his father and how I will have life forever after I die. I need to live for God. His will.
